I like that this Te Reo Māori word demonstrates the desire of life to “be”. That while something appears absolutely annihilated, it can also be hopeful, as being hidden means that it still “is”, not entirely “nil”. An image of Aleppo began this painting, but aspects of the city where I live presently have layered itself upon the image too.
